Proficiency at Handling Horses on the Ground

Great for Vet Techs, Vet School Students, and first time horse owners!!

Novice
1 ½ hours of basics on the ground~ how to keep yourself safe and the horse calm in most situations.

These classes are designed to help anyone involved in equine activities gain the confidence to best handle horses in different situations safely. You will understand how horses move their bodies, to which cues, and the best way to keep a horse in the position needed for safety of both. We will give you immediate tools to help with horses that barge, spook, bite, strike, rear, kick, have trailer loading issues, and many other behaviors that arise. You will also learn how to evaluate if a horse is sick, injured, hoof lame, body/muscle sore and to determine how it is affecting their behavior; then a brief discussion about what info to tell the veterinarian to make treatment easier for everyone involved. Once the basic concepts are understood, we incorporate some basic grooming & tacking of the horse with a good emphasis on saddle & bridle fit.

In the saddle: If there is interest , we will also introduce mount & dismount, feeling a balanced seat in the saddle at the walk, using the reins & legs to steer, standard stop, emergency stop, & emergency dismounts.

If no interest in riding, we will instruct on more advanced ground work such as ground driving, obstacle courses, & other imaginative FUN to enhance the pleasure of horses without being in the saddle!

We will come to your farm or you may come to our farm. Your horse or ours!

Introductory price $65 per session
3 sessions only $175
(save $20 when you purchase 3 sessions)

We also offer Intermediate & Advanced Horse Handling Classes which expand greatly on the Novice Class. This higher level of ground & saddle work is geared to create a closer connection with the horse by teaching subtlety of body language to the handler.
