Hamel Days 2007

This was a grade school tour of the small town of Hamel, IL as it would have been in the 1800's.

The students would walk the town going from station to station while they learned about how a town would thrive and function in the 1800's.

The speakers of each station represented different town landmarks throughout history: Traction Station, Route 66, Blacksmith Shop/Flour Mill, Hamel's first Teacher, The Spinning Wheel, Nature Trail, Wolf's Store, Arrowheads, Postmaster/Post Office, Koch's House, Meyer Insurance, Tourist Haven, Cassen's Transport, Hamel State Bank, & the Log Cabin Museum.

All the students were 3rd graders from different local schools: Hamel, Midway, St. Mary's, Columbus, Trinity/St. Paul. They were escorted by the 2nd grade tour guides from Hamel Elementary.

We were stationed at the Blacksmith's Shop/Flour Mill where all the students were able to meet Einstein (a.k.a. Rowdy, named for the day since Einstein wasn't born yet!) after they learned about the purpose/need of a Blacksmith in those days.

He was a great ambassador for LPF and was happy to play the role of "horse at the Blacksmith's Shop" for all the students to learn about horses and their needs. He enjoyed meeting all of the students, teachers, and parents as he would whinny to all that would pass by or stop, waiting to get another pet or possibly even get another treat.
