Molly Before
9-16-07 22 year old pony mix (NO Bakshir Curly genetics!) -
The day Molly arrived she was in very poor condition. It was 100 degrees out and she had not shed anything from the previous winter. This poor pony had gone through the entire summer heat in this condition, without sweating; meaning she had no natural cooling system. Tests revealed she was NOT a Cushing’s Disease candidate, her metabolic symptoms were apparently stress induced from her previous lifestyle over the past 10 years or so. (She had lived with over 80 horses in a fairly small area; under 10 acres, from the information given to me, having to constantly protect her self from the larger & younger horses.) She was unable to eat normally due to her imbalanced dental care, thus sparking her downward spiral into what you see here. She could not chew properly which left her without any way to support her digestion & absorption of nutrients. This created a lack of muscle tone; her skin was extremely dry & crusty, with multiple sores and a very sour smell. She was lethargic & depressed.

Here is Molly during her transformation. At this point, all but the legs & belly have been cut down to ¼ inch in length. Her coat length was up to 4 inches in some areas of her body. The “hair cut” took approximately 6 hours to complete. This photo was taken at 4 hours into the transformation.
By doing this we will grow back a new coat & hoof as we internally support her metabolism & immune system with a natural feeding routine.

Molly After
After emergency dental balancing by Ron Johnson, Master EqD from Lewisburg, TN, a natural diet designed to support her metabolism & immune system, plus a couple of balanced hoof trims, Molly is on the road to recovery! She is no longer lethargic & depressed. She is out in the 45 acre pasture with all of the other horses, EASILY holding her own! She still has a little ways to go for a full recovery, so we will keep you updated on her progress. I’m sure by Springtime she will be 23 years YOUNG & VIBRANT; ready to teach the lesson kids how to be with horses!
